Catherine MacDow began highland dancing at the age of 12 in Wolfville Nova Scotia thanks to her younger sister Constance. She started in the winter of 1995 and began competing three months later. Since then she has won several awards in her competitive dancing career and continues to do so in the years ahead.

After taking a few years off from dancing competitively to complete her undergraduate degree at Saint Mary’s University, and achieve her bachelor of Education degree at Acadia University. During her undergraduate degree she completed the SDTA Associate Highland Dancing exam to become a dance instructor in the Valley when she returned for school. After returning from teaching in China, she has completed her Bachelor of Education degree and teaches high school in the Valley. She has been teaching highland dance in Berwick to an enthusiastic group of young students. She also continues dancing and competing herself, with instruction and guidance from her teacher Debby Stevenson. Catherine will return to China in February 2009 with her new husband Shane, who is also teaching in China.
